Privacy Policy
# Privacy Policy Last updated: 20 October 2026 1. Who we are Inspected Carsales (ABN 32 472 677 030) ("we", "us") runs an online vehicle marketplace and arranges independent vehicle inspections. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with, and your choices. We aim to handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Contact: admin@inspectedcarsales.au. 2. What we collect, and why If you have an account on the marketplace (buyers, sellers, dealers):** your name, email address, password (stored by our marketplace software provider in protected form), phone number and profile details if you give them, the content you post (listings, photos, messages), and for dealers, business details and subscription information. We use it to run your account, show your listings, let users contact each other, and keep the site safe. If you book an inspection (sellers):** your name and contact email, the vehicle and the address where it can be inspected (including suburb, state, postcode and map location), your preferred date and time, and your booking and payment status. We use it to arrange and carry out the inspection and to give you the report. We also record that you accepted our booking terms: the version, the time, your internet address and your browser details. We do this so we can show what you agreed to. Payments:** payments are taken by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and are not stored by us. We keep a reference to the payment and its status, and any refund decision and the reason for it. If you are a mechanic:** your name, email, phone number, workshop name and address, ABN, qualification and licence details, the documents you upload to prove them, anything you choose to tell us about your insurance (which we do not verify), the records of agreements and statements you accept (with the time, and your internet address and browser), and the jobs you accept and the reports you submit. We use it to decide whether you can accept jobs, to run the jobs, and to handle complaints and quality. Inspection reports:** a report records the vehicle, its condition, photos, and the date and the mechanic's name. The public report page shows the vehicle, its approximate location (suburb and state), the photos and findings. It does not show the customer's contact details or the mechanic's contact details. The stored copy of a report can hold the customer's and the mechanic's contact details, which are kept private. A report is shown publicly, and anyone with its link can read it and download it. If you send a complaint:** your name, email address, how you are connected to the report, what you tell us, and any files you attach. Files are stored privately and are visible only to our team. We use it to look into the complaint and to reply to you. When you visit:** our servers record your internet address, the pages requested and technical details, for security, limiting abuse and fixing faults. We count requests by internet address to stop abuse (for example, too many complaints or downloads). Our marketplace software uses essential cookies to keep you signed in. We do not currently use advertising or analytics cookies. If we start to, we will update this policy and ask where the law requires. 3. Who we share it with - The assigned mechanic receives only what they need to do the job (the vehicle, its address, your name and a way to reach you), and only after they have accepted it. - Buyers and the public see your listing and any inspection report on it. - Service providers** that help us run the site: our marketplace software provider (Sharetribe), Stripe (payments), our database and file storage provider (Supabase), our hosting providers, and our email provider (Resend). They may handle information only to provide their service to us. - Others where the law requires**, to protect safety or rights, or to deal with a legal claim, or if our business is sold. We do not sell personal information. 4. Information sent overseas Some of our providers store or handle information outside Australia. These include providers in the United States and in Europe. Before relying on a provider overseas we take reasonable steps to make sure they handle information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. 5. How long we keep it We keep personal information for as long as we need it for the purposes above and as the law requires. Reports are not edited after they are submitted: corrections are kept as separate versions. We do not keep personal information longer than we need it, and we delete or de-identify it when we no longer need it, unless the law requires us to keep it. 6. Keeping it safe We take reasonable steps to protect personal information, including keeping files private, limiting who on our team can see them, recording each time a piece of complaint evidence is opened, and using secure connections. No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will tell the people affected and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as the law requires. 7. Seeing and correcting your information, and deleting it You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and to have it corrected. You can ask us to delete it, and we will do so where we can. We may need to keep some records (for example payment records, an agreement you accepted, or material about a complaint) where the law, a complaint or a legal claim requires, and a submitted report cannot be edited but can be corrected or withdrawn. Contact admin@inspectedcarsales.au. We will respond within 30 days. You can close a marketplace account yourself from your profile settings or by contacting us. 8. Complaints about privacy If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, contact us first at admin@inspectedcarsales.au. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). 9. Cookies We use cookies that are needed for the site to work, such as keeping you signed in. Stripe may set cookies when you pay. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. You can block cookies in your browser, but parts of the site may not work. 10. Changes We may update this policy. We will change the date at the top, and tell you about material changes before they apply. --- Short collection notices (to show where information is collected) Booking an inspection: "We use your name, contact details and address to arrange your inspection and give the report to you and on your listing.
